Hollywood Couples Who Met on Set

They say you should never mix business with pleasure. Hollywood, however, has never really listened. Film sets are pressure cookers of emotion, long hours, shared vulnerability, and raw chemistry — and sometimes, the sparks that fly on screen refuse to stay there. Here are some of the most iconic Hollywood couples whose love stories began the moment the director called action.

Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively — Green Lantern (2010)

Perhaps the most beloved example of on-set romance done right. Reynolds and Lively first met in 2010 when they filmed Green Lantern, with Reynolds playing the titular superhero and Lively playing his love interest. Neither was single at the time, but fate had other plans. A year later, a legendary double date with other people ended with fireworks between the two of them. They married in 2012 and have since built a family of six. Over a decade later, they remain Hollywood’s gold standard for what an on-set romance can become.

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie — Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2004)

No list of on-set romances is complete without the most talked-about one in Hollywood history. Jolie and Pitt met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. Although they denied any romance at the time, they later admitted they fell in love on set.  Jolie described how their friendship evolved naturally — realising she couldn’t wait to get to work every day. Their relationship produced six children and defined tabloid culture for an entire decade. Though they eventually separated, the story of how they began remains one of Hollywood’s most unforgettable.

Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher — That ’70s Show (1998)

This one is the slow burn that paid off beautifully. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis first met on That ’70s Show, where their characters Kelso and Jackie were a couple — but they weren’t dating in real life at the time.  The series wrapped in 2006, yet the couple didn’t realise their passionate connection until 2012.  They married in 2015 and have two children together. Sometimes love just needs a decade or so to figure itself out.

Kirsten Dunst & Jesse Plemons — Fargo (2014)

Fargo season two featured a somewhat unhappily married couple embroiled in drama — but real life was considerably simpler for the two actors. Dunst told the LA Times, “We fell in love creatively first. He was like a creative soul mate to me.”  She recalled telling a friend just two weeks into filming that she would know this man for the rest of her life. They got married in 2022 and together have two sons, Ennis and James.  A love story that proves sometimes the best romance starts with admiring someone’s work ethic.

Celebrities with Hidden Talents You Didn’t Know About

Anna Paquin & Stephen Moyer — True Blood (2007)

Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin met on the HBO vampire drama True Blood, in which their characters are just as besotted with each other as they were in real life. Moyer describes meeting her in 2007 as love at first sight, and they were married by 2010. They welcomed twins while still filming the series and have continued collaborating professionally ever since — Moyer even directed Paquin in a 2022 drama. Few couples manage to keep both their personal and professional chemistry alive this long.

Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr. — I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

Sarah Michelle Gellar met Freddie Prinze Jr. in 1997 when they were shooting I Know What You Did Last Summer. She was 21 and he was 22. They started dating in 2000, got engaged in 2001, and married a little over a year later.  The pair continued working together, memorably appearing as Fred and Daphne in the Scooby-Doo films. Now decades on, they remain one of Hollywood’s most quietly enduring couples — proof that horror sets can lead to very happy endings.

Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz — Dream House (2010)

While Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz’s film Dream House was more horror than romance, it brought these two together. They tied the knot in 2011 and have been the gorgeous, low-profile couple of our dreams ever since.  In an industry where oversharing is practically a career requirement, their commitment to privacy makes their love story feel all the more genuine.

Hollywood sets may be temporary by design, but the connections formed on them can last a lifetime. Long hours, shared intensity, and the intimacy of storytelling create the perfect conditions for something real to bloom. For these couples, the cameras stopped rolling — but the love story didn’t.
